Bibliometrics is the use of statistical methods to analysis books, articles, other publications and scholarly publications especially in scientific contents. This small piece of writing discuss following point about the Bibliometric.

1. What is Bibliometric ?

Bibliometrics is the use of statistical methods to analysis books, articles, other publications and scholarly publications especially in scientific contents. The Term Bibliometric coined by Alan Pritchard in 1969.

“Bibliometric is the application of mathematics and statistical methods used other media of communication” (Pritchard, 1969).

2. What are the Types of Bibliometric?

There are five types of Bibliometric Analysis/studies/research are conducted by researchers

1. Authors Bibliometrics

2. Publication Bibliometrics

3. Journals Bibliometrics

4. Groups Bibliometrics

5. Alternative Metrics

1. Author Metrics

Authors Bibliometrics provides information about the author metrics publications. Authors Bibliometrics explains author’s number of Publications, citations and authorship and co-authorship patterns.

2. Publications Bibliometrics

Publications Bibliometirc also refers as documents bibliometrics presents the same discipline articles published in different journals or databases. It described the specific growth of literature in any domain of knowledge.

3. Journals Bibliometrics

Journals Bibliometric analysis provides statistical anaylsis of journals like. Journals Impact factor (The average number of citations for articles in a particular journal from the preceding years.) which is usually published by JCR, Scimago Journal Rank (SJR),  Source Normalized Impact per Paper​ (SNIP), Field Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) and other measure indexing tools.

4. Groups Metrics

Groups Bibliometrics Analysis discuss presented the citations analysis and metrics of any specific professions like (Bibliometrics analysis of Medical professionals working in USA) OR Bibliometrics Analysis of faculty members of New York University).

Example:-

Groups Bibliometrics analysis has also in two category

a. Bibliometrics study based on specific profession groups. Example (Faculty members, Doctors, Engineers, Nurses, Media personal, Computer programmers)

b. Bibliometrics study based on specific Organization. (Academic Organization, Universities, Hospitals, Research based Organization).

5. Alternative Metrics

Alternative metrics measure the usage of research and scientific results outside the traditional academic environment. Alternative metric have been developed as a response to the limitations of bibliometrics and are designed to complement these metrics, not replace the bibliometric.

Example:-

ResearchGate, Google scholar and Scopus are the example of alternative metrics. Alternative metrics presents beyond the citation counts its also presents reads, view, download and etc. due to this it is called alternative metrics.
