Population

A complete set of elements (persons or objects) that possess some common characteristic defined by the sampling criteria established by the researcher is known as “Research Population”.

In other words

A research population is also known as a well-defined collection of individuals or objects known to have similar characteristics.

As per the characteristics of the population, A researcher can divided population in two groups.

1. Targeted Population 2. Accessible population

1. Targeted Population

The entire group of people or objects to which the researcher wishes to generalize the study findings.

2. Accessible population

The portion of the population to which the researcher has reasonable access; may be a subset of the target population.

Sample

The selected elements (people or objects) chosen for participation in a study; people are referred to as subjects or participants.

Sample reflects the characteristics of the population, so those sample findings can be generalized to the population. If there is one sample it is donated with N.
