Museums help create vibrant, energised learning communities. As steward of cultural heritage, information and ideas, museums and libraries have traditionally played a vital role in the helping us experience, explore, discover and make sense of the world. Museum play fundamental role in the archaeology, transforming the process of discovery into a long-term resources for reinterpreting the past. Museums are the main source of the formal, informal education and knowledge hub. This is very attractive place for students, local and foreign researcher and scholars of archaeologist, historian, arts and social scientist to gain knowledge about old these objects. In this article I will discuss four important point about Museum.

1. What is a Museum?

As per the International Council of Museum (ICOM, 2007) guidelines museums define as under

“A museum is a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education, study and enjoyment.”

2. What are different type’s museums?

There are seven types of Museums

1. Historical Museums: These museums illustrate historical events or period, personalities etc. They have weapons, statues, artifacts made of stones and other material.

2. Archaeological Museum: It contains all the objects related to history. It is always situated near the archaeological sites like Meon Jo Daro Museum.

3. General Museum: They contain more than one subject and therefore these museums are called multidisciplinary museums.

4. Military Museum: Military Museum having objects related warfare tools and objects like weapons, like guns, tank, jets and etc.

5. Fine arts: They contain all types of paintings, drawings, sculpture, architecture etc.

6. Science and Technology: It contains all the things which are representative of the evolution of history, science, and technology such as fossils of dinosaurs.

Importance of Museum

1. Museums collect and preserve, objects and materials related to religious, cultural and historical value.

2. Museums help to preserve and promote any nation cultural heritage.

3. Museums are a storehouse of old artefacts, sculptures, objects, history etc.

4. Museums help in researcher, historian, eminent scholar and study.

5. Museum create main attraction for local and foreigner tourist.

6. Museums are a good source of knowledge.
