Quick Response (QR Code), Matrix barcode. It is also known as 2D barcodes, 2D codes or mobile codes. The QR codes typically appears as a small white square with black geometric shapes, thugh colored QR codes are also now being used. The Information hold by QR codes can be a URL, a Phone number, a sms messages, a V-card or the any text. These codes are referred as QR codes because these allow contents to be content to be decoded at high speed.

When did QR code invent?

The QR code system was invented in 1994 by Masahiro Hara from the Japanese company Denso Wave (Broko, 2011). The initial designed was influenced by the black and white pieces on a Go board. Its purpose was to track vehicles during the manufacturing; It was designed to allow high speed component scanning.

A digital object identifier (DOI) is a permanent identifier or handle used to identify digital objects uniquely, standardized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) (Paskin, 2010).

DOIs are in wide use mainly to identify academic, professional, and government information, such as journal articles, Books Chapters, Research reports, data sets, and official publications. Sometimes DOI also refers for commercial videos.

The DOI was officially launched at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 1997 (Anon, 1997). First DOI based article was published in 2000.

Q 3 Which characters/digits are used in DOI?

DOI consist Alpha Numeric characters. A DOI consists of a publisher ID* (prefix) and an item ID (suffix), separated by a forward slash (/). For example, the DOI for one of Emerald journal articles would look like this:

A national library is a library established by a government as a country’s preeminent repository of information. Unlike public libraries, these rarely allow citizens to borrow books. Often, they include numerous rare, valuable, or significant works. A national library is that library which has the duty of collecting and preserving the literature of the nation within and outside the country. Thus, national libraries are those libraries whose community is the nation at large.

Humphreys (1966) articulated seven fundamental functions of national libraries:

I. National bibliographic control

One of the main goals of a national library is fulfilling their nation’s part of the common international goal of universal bibliographic control, by ensuring the bibliographic control of all the books or book-like documents published in that particular country or talking about that particular country, in any way.

II. International Bibliographical Control

 Another one of the main goals of many a national library is the “export aspect” and the collaborative sides of the universal bibliographic control of all the books in the world. This is done by the exchanges and accords between different Nations, and also by fostering the creation of standard conceptual tools such as library classification systems and cataloguing rules. The most commonly used of these tools is the International Standard Bibliographic Description or ISBD, which has served as a basis for national and international cataloguing codes, such as AACR2.

III. Legal deposit

National Library is also play vital role in the legal deposit of any national collections they endorse collection through author or content.

IV. Publication of Catalogue

An important function of National library is publication of catalogue. How many books published in the country?

1. What is a Public Library?

A public library is an organization established, supported and funded by the community, either through local, regional Provincial or national government or through some other form of community organization.

Public Library provides access to knowledge, information and works of the imagination through a range of resources and services and is equally available to all members of the community regardless of race, nationality, age, gender, religion, language, disability, economic and employment status and educational attainment.

2. What are the different types of Public Library?

There are two important types of Public Library

1. Community Library

Community Library is also a type of public library. Community library serve to a specific community they live in specific area fisherman community lives near by the coastal area. Any library small library serve to that community is known as community library.

2. Mobile Library

Mobile Library is type of public library serve the remote area. Mobile library is a vehicle designed for use as a library. It is designed to hold books on shelves in such a way that when the vehicle is parked they can be accessed by readers. Mobile libraries are often used to provide library services to villages and city suburbs that have no library buildings.

Besides these two types there different types of public library i.e, as per the population of the area ruler library/village library, town library, city library and etc.

3. What are the characteristics of Public Library?

There are five fundamental characteristics shared by public libraries:-

1. Public Libraries are open to all, and every community member can access the collection.

2. Public Libraries are governed by a board to serve the public interest.

3. Public Libraries are entirely voluntary in that no one is ever forced to use the services provided.

4. Public Library provide basic services without any charge.

5. Public Libraries are generally supported Public funds i.e., taxes (usually local, though any level of government can and may contribute).

4. What are the core functions of a Public Library?

I. Education & Information

Supporting both individual and self-conducted informal education as well as formal education at all levels. Information The public library is the local centre of information making all kinds of knowledge and information readily available to its users.

II. Personal development

Public library Provides opportunities for personal creative development of the individual.

III. Reading Habits

Public library also plays very important role to develop the reading habits of the individual, community and society.

IV. Cultural Development

An important role of the public library is providing a focus for cultural and artistic development in the community and helping to shape and support the cultural identity of the community.

V. Social Need of The Public

Public library also support In developing policies to fulfil the role and purpose of the social need of the community and provide services according to the community social needs.

I. Reading Hall Facilities

Public library provides reading hall facilities to its users where library patron stay and read the library material as per their reading habits.

II. Book borrowing facilities

Public library also provide the book borrowing facilities to its library users.  

III. Internet access to library users

To provide online access to e-content public libraries have internet and wifi facilities. And Public libraries have also small internet café or computer room.

IV. Document Delivery Service

Public library also provide the Document delivery to its user’s article and easy and other reading stuff supply to the community.

V. Reference Services

Reference services is also provide to the public library where reference librarian support/assistance to library users and their day to day query.

IV. Events Organisation

Public library also organise events for the respective users For Kids Library Organized story telling session, Book launching, Seminars and other related events as per the need and demand of the respective library users.

VII. Services to Special users Groups

Public Library also provides services to special groups of communities like women, Senior Citizen, people with special need/learning disabilities.  

Any other library services like community support services to promotion of reading habits and education.

There are two important Organization of Public library

I. Public Library Association (PLA) 

The Public Library Association (PLA) is the largest association dedicated to supporting the unique and evolving needs of public library professionals. PLA is division of ALA.Founded in 1944, PLA serves nearly 10,000 members in public libraries large and small in communities across the United States and Canada, with a growing presence around the world.

II. Public Libraries Section

This Section provides an active international forum for the development and promotion of public libraries which serve the whole community in the context of the information society and ensure free and equal access to information at the local level. It also includes mobile libraries.
